Syrian-Kurdish journalist and novelist Maha Hassan is a powerful storyteller with a deep understanding of the pains inflicted by war. Her latest book, Good Morning War, depicts a family divided by war and the fates of those who leave and those who stay: the mother who prefers to die in her own home, the brother who was rejected as a refugee, the sister who lives in Paris but has to check every morning she is not really still in Damascus, and all the people forced to leave their country behind.
