Family memories, members and events can provide rich material for poets. Award-winning poet Kirun Kapur will teach you how to use your family’s history as inspiration for your poems, using examples from contemporary poets and from Kirun’s collection Visiting Indira Gandhi’s Palmist. You will then have the chance to work on your own poetry, with Kirun’s guidance. No previous writing experience is required, but in-progress works are welcome at the session. The tutor: Kirun Kapur is the poetry editor of The Drum audio literary magazine. Her first collection, Visiting Indira Gandhi’s Palmist, won the Antivenom Poetry Award. In 2015, NBC News named her on its list of Asian-American Poets to Watch. Language: English Age Group: 16+
